R410A is a near-azeotropic HFC (Hydrofluorocarbon) refrigerant blend consisting of R32 (50%) and R125 (50%). It was developed as a high-pressure alternative to R22, specifically for use in modern residential and commercial air conditioning and heat pump systems.

General Characteristics

  • Environmental Profile: It has zero Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP = 0) and a Global Warming Potential (GWP) of 2088.
  • Safety Classification: Rated as A1 by ASHRAE (Non-toxic and non-flammable).
  • High Pressure: R410A operates at significantly higher pressures (approximately 60% higher) than R22. Therefore, it requires equipment specifically designed to handle these pressures and cannot be used as a retrofit for R22 systems.
  • Temperature Glide: It is a near-azeotropic blend with an extremely low temperature glide (< 0.1 K), allowing it to behave much like a single-component gas.
  • Efficiency: It offers excellent heat transfer properties and high refrigeration capacity, leading to more compact and energy-efficient HVAC units.
  • Lubrication: It is compatible only with POE (Polyolester) synthetic oils.
